Hey there! My name is Katie and I’m taking a leap of faith after (and still) over 15 years of acute care healthcare experience to enter into the world of preventive health and wellness. My passion for holistic wellness really began at the start of my nursing career. Those that work in the industry know, nursing has become increasingly task driven and those holistic practices, well, just aren’t practiced as much anymore. Priorities have shifted from one of treating the whole person to one of trying to catch up to the cascade of complications of chronic disease and treat symptoms with methods that are only one side of the journey towards optimal health.
My experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (more on that role later) in the world of Emergency Nursing is truly a front row seat to the devastation of preventable disease. I never would have imagined I would be caring for so many patients who are struggling with conditions like kidney disease, strokes, COPD, heart disease and the list goes on. Top that off with living in a pretty rural area for many years and those effects are only magnified further.
I began to wonder how could people avoid or step off this path and end the downward spiral of spending so much time treating symptoms of their disease process. There had to be a way to work towards eliminating the disease all together by making small changes in a holistic way that would lead to wellness. Walking on a tightrope trying to stay balanced in a world of quick fixes just won’t work anymore as healthcare costs treating chronic diseases are in the trillions annually.
I decided to try to be a small catalyst of change by becoming a Duke Certified Health and Well-Being Coach in 2022. Now I’m ready to jump in with other likeminded passionate people who see and experience the value in truly treating the whole person. My goal is to combine my passion of writing and holistic health to reach those ready to learn more about becoming their favorite versions of themselves. I hope you’ll join me on this new adventure and be bold in finding your true north towards wellness. Grab your compass and let’s go!
